21. Should I pause before continue to watch next movie?
I've been wondering about this for a while, including manga, short story, novel, TV series, documentary, non-fiction, video games, and any other creative mediums.
It’s 14 o’clock at noon. On a lazy day, I read some chapters on Webtoon, watch anime or a series, and also read a book, probably fiction. All of these stories will end one day. For stories that really resonate with me, I will have a silent moment, processing information that the story ended.
It happened several times and then, it got me thinking: Do I have to record it? Do I have to capture the feelings? Do I have to review them? Am I moving on too fast?
I don’t want some stories to end up in my head as merely “good stories”. I felt I’m conditioned to consume stories as fast as possible. To gobble everything. The movie’s over? Here’s the next one that you might like. It felt like eating fast food. It felt mindless. Unhealthy. I mean I shouldn’t contemplate everything but then, which one should I contemplate? Resonating one? Exciting one? The one that got me thinking, maybe? Some of the stories might check all of them but some might not.
There are multiple activities that I can do after consuming the stories as well. Talking with friends, recommending it to a friend, looking for a behind-the-scenes or creation process, discussing it in an online forum, or writing a review. I’m pretty sure I’m overthinking about this but let me be.
At the moment, I record a few of my experiences in a journal. I did them occasionally. Movies and books got more coverage since they have a distinctive finished feeling. TV series and anime were sometimes covered. Short stories and manga were the unluckiest.
Video games have their own place. Since I’m doing more on game design, I’m thinking from a more technical point of view. I often try to understand how a certain part is executed instead of focusing on my own experience.
I wish to reflect or pause more often. A simple and reliable method. I’m currently thinking about making a decision tree. Shouldn’t be too complex or I would be bogged down by my own procedure. At the very least, it should nudge me to stop a bit and get me thinking about my experience. It should slow me down. This is important to me since every creative company out there seems to want me to go as fast as possible and I want to be a rebel.
Speaking of rebels, the Andor TV series is one of the best star wars series that I ever saw.
Alright, neighbor, I’ll see you next time. Cannot promise you I will send another one soon. Stay safe and stay awesome.
